About this Session
I've done over 1,000 technical interviews for Amazon/AWS. As a so-called "bar raiser", I had a unique role beyond simply interviewing candidates: I worked with hiring managers and recruiters to arrange the interview panels themselves (which interviewers, which questions/areas to cover), I was responsible for leading the post-interview hiring discussion, and ultimately I held a veto even over the hiring manager. This experience gave me a lot of insight into the technical hiring process (from Amazon's perspective, but broadly applicable to FAANG and beyond) and lets me help prospective candidates level up on their interview skills and preparation.
When you book, I'll ask you for more information about the kind of job role you're applying for, and what type of interview you're trying to prepare for (coding, system design/architecture, or general/behavioral). Even better, check out the "Software Interview Preparation" package, where can deep dive more into your background and the specific roles you're preparing for and give you much more personalized and targeted feedback.
During the session, I can focus on something specific like coding or architecture if you like, but generally what I like to do is take a brief look at your resume, ask you about your "highlights" -- standout projects or accomplishments that you'd like to emphasize to potential employers -- and dive into those. I'm looking for data in the "STAR" format -- what was the Situation, what was the Task, what did you do (Action), and what was the Result.
I'm often giving feedback to you on-the-fly, however I will also reserve the last 15 minutes of our time to go back over everything and give you some overall feedback. And I'll also send you some written feedback afterwards, once I've had a chance to review my notes and condense it into some overall themes and specific points to improve.
