I also worked side jobs (hello hostels!) while freelancing and running a business, so I know how it is to feel the next big chance will never come. I loved my jobs, I hated my jobs (oh so much!) and I had several gigs in between - and all was totally worth it because of the wonderful and talented people I met.
Mentoring is about exchanging thoughts and figuring out everything on the way (sorry! no miracles here). You always grow if you are exposed to different perspectives.
