About

As a self-taught engineer, I know how challenging it can be to move from a junior to a senior engineering role. With so many learning resources available, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and lose direction without proper guidance. Mentorship was very important in my career because it helped me stay focused, set clear goals, and make steady progress. Throughout my career, I’ve been fortunate to work with 17+ mentors from companies like Netflix, Uber, Microsoft, and Slack.

In 2020, I began giving back to the community by becoming a mentor. My mentorship style focuses on actively listening and understanding your goals. I believe in a structured but flexible approach. After each session, we will keep a shared document to record key takeaways, set action items, and review them in future sessions. This helps build accountability and track your progress. Since everyone is different, we will adjust the approach to fit what works best for you.

As a mentor, I can support people at different stages of their careers by helping with:
- Creating a portfolio to land a developer job
- Getting promoted to Mid, Senior, or Tech Lead roles
- Improving technical skills
- Enhancing project leadership skills
- Strengthening communication skills
- Moving from an individual contributor role to an engineering manager position

Lastly, a bit about me:

I am a Senior Software Engineer at Apollo.io, where I focus on delivering great user experiences by maintaining consistent product architecture and UX patterns. I work with a large codebase alongside more than 200+ engineers. I also spent 2 years as an engineering manager to develop my management and people skills.

One of my superpowers is project leadership. I enjoy bridging communication gaps between product, design, and engineering teams, and fostering collaboration within teams and across multiple teams.

My mentorship with Ricardo has helped me a lot in a small time window. There was many concepts I was confused about in JavaScript and React before starting my mentorship with Ricardo then he broke and explained to me which made me more confident. Ricardo is able to break complicated stuff (for example closures in JavaScript and how to use useState with useEffect properly) and explain them, besides his patience when doing so. Sometimes I didn't understand something so he took one further step to explain and make concepts simpler. One of most important things Ricardo taught me is how to go through debugging and solving a problem by myself when I face one. I am very glad I worked with him.

I want to give my deep gratitude to Ricardo for mentoring me the last 3 months. It was very productive and challenging time for me. Ricardo was always available for the feedback and meetings, and pair programming sessions. He shared with me a lot of new ways how to gain new knowledge and skills, and some of them became a real game changers for me. I want to emphasise here Ricardo's hands on approach in teaching programming.
