About

Hi I’m Brooks 👋 — I'm a Full-Stack Software Engineer based out of Toronto. I started my career in undergrad as a Computer Science/Chemistry double major at Western University doing the odd software contracting jobs over the summer, and eventually co-founding a tech-ed startup as a technical co-founder. After getting some experience developing software independently for a few years, I joined an early stage YC-backed startup company in Toronto for about four years before joining DoorDash (and Lighthouse Labs as a part-time mentor), which is where I've been for the past couple of years.

I've had my own challenges navigating my career in tech and definitely believe that mentorship is a great way to learn the relevant skills and insights to succeed without having to go through the long and slow approach of trial and error. I’ve volunteered as a mentor to a number of engineers both in my past and current professional roles, and independently as a contractor at Lighthouse Labs.

As a mentor I’m happy to work with you on your goals and am best equipped to help you with:

Resume Review: Tailoring your resume for a particular job posting or purpose.
Interview Mastery: Strategies to feel comfortable in an interview setting and plenty of practice/feedback.
Technical Mastery: Improving your skills in React, Typescript, GraphQL, Node, and Kotlin through code reviews, pair programming and recommending resources that I've personally found helpful.
Career Advancement: Creating a career and promotion plan that's actionable and based on both short and medium-term milestones and goals.
Portfolio Development: Creating a portfolio that showcases your best work.
Constructive Feedback: Offering candid and actionable feedback on both your technical and non-technical work and skills.

I'm confident that with a bit of direction and focused effort on some of these that you'll be able to chip away at whatever is standing between you and your career goals, and I'd be happy to help make that happen if any of the skills I've mentioned above are what you're looking for!

I’m truly grateful for his support and couldn’t recommend him more highly.
