I manage a small data science team for a startup (<40 people) and can help you learn about data science products, what makes a good analysis great, applying machine learning beyond pure model building, managing realtime models, moving to a startup, and lastly how to get into or move up in Data Science (hint: it's not too late).

Like most, my journey into DS was far from typical. I took turns in sales, engineering, technology and analytics while trying various aspects of insurance industries; all with the goal to grasp the big picture and day-to-day application of data science. Today, my career and perspective matches that of a data science generalist. I agree fondly with the saying "a jack of all trades is a master of none, but is still better than a master of one."

Within so much change during 8+ years in data, one thing has been constant: mentoring teammates. I have mentored 10+ junior data scientists, analysts and non DS teammates and have helped 9 grow upward or enter into tech and DS roles. I've witnessed this get tougher in today's job market. I have been mentored by 3 data science managers so I also know what it's like in your shoes. I continue to mentor and chat folks who have moved companies, finished mentorships or grown beyond my role.

All of this to say - my goal is to help you learn more about data science and analytics and grow professionally and personally. We'll do that together by discussing topics openly, working through problems, applying solutions and keeping on track with weekly takeaways and monthly goals.

We can work together in 3 ways - individual sessions, a hands-on Standard Mentorship or a less hands on Lite version and I always start mentorships with a free introductory call we can get to know each other more.

I hope I get the chance to help you grow.

I'm an early-mid career data scientist and am looking to take my career to the next level, so I booked a DS career transition session with Ian. Ian took the time to provide thoughtful insights and suggestions to help gear my career planning in the right direction. He helped me consider various options to upskilling myself including detailed review of several online Master programs. We also discussed about data project ideas and 2 approaches to decide on a project topics. He provided me with a framework on how to gain clarity on my long-term career goal. Great mentor that cares about your success!
