About

Hi, I’m Jeff.

I’m a Consulting Member of Technical Staff at Oracle, where I build and scale cloud-native, OCI-based services that power Oracle Fusion Applications used by customers around the world. I’ve spent over 7 years working on production systems that support multi-million- and billion-dollar SaaS businesses.

Before Oracle, I was a Software Development Engineer at AWS, working on EC2 Pricing and Launch Services products, such as Spot Instances, EC2 Fleet, and Hibernation. That experience gave me hands-on exposure to designing and operating large-scale systems with real constraints around reliability, performance, and cost.

Over the years, I’ve grown from senior engineer to principal and now consulting-level roles, so I understand what it takes to level up, get promoted, and build a sustainable career in big tech. I also hold a B.S. in Computer Science & Financial Engineering and an M.S. in Computation and Programming from Columbia University, which shaped how I approach problem-solving and systems design.

As a mentor, I enjoy helping engineers become stronger and more confident professionals—not just passing interviews, but succeeding on the job. I’m especially happy to support mentees who want to:

- Strengthen software engineering fundamentals
- Improve debugging, system design, and production readiness
- Navigate promotions and long-term career growth in big tech
- Prepare for technical interviews with practical, real-world guidance

Beyond purely technical mentoring, I’m also a good resource for broader conversations around life and career between the US and China. Having lived, studied, and worked across cultures, I’m happy to discuss topics such as:

- Working in tech in the US vs. China
- Career transitions and immigration-adjacent considerations
- Cultural differences, communication styles, and workplace expectations
- US–China perspectives, current events, and politics (in a thoughtful, open way)
- Everyday life topics like food, lifestyle, and adapting to a new environment

I’m comfortable mentoring in English or Mandarin (中文), depending on what’s most natural for you.

My mentoring style is direct, supportive, and practical. I focus on actionable feedback, honest conversations, and sharing lessons I’ve learned so you can move forward with clarity and confidence.

If you’re motivated to grow—technically, professionally, or personally—I’d be happy to work with you.
