About

I am a UX Lead and Manager at Google, drawing on 15+ years of experience launching impactful features across multiple product areas and building high-performing, culture-focused teams. My journey wasn’t a straight line, transitioning from Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design to UX. This non-linear background shaped my point of view: there is no single right way to build a design career, and having a diverse perspective is a strength, not a setback.

Having mentored 50+ designers, lectured, and led hiring and performance reviews, I understand the hurdles you face. Because of this, my approach to mentorship is highly personalized, supportive, and tailored to where you are. I act as an objective sounding board to help you cut through the day-to-day noise and build the confidence you need to do your best work.

Whether you are looking to establish your foundation, build and guide teams, or grow from an individual contributor into a strategic leader, I can help you navigate the path. Together, we can focus on practical strategies to navigate modern design challenges, from building strong cross-functional partnerships to adapting your workflows in the era of AI.

5 out of 5 stars

Kenji has been a great mentor for me! During the past four months of recruiting, Kenji has been giving me incredibly useful feedback and support on everything from portfolio presentation, website case study, whiteboard challenge, choosing offers, to, most importantly, keeping a healthy mentality when dealing with stress and rejections during the recruiting season. As a new grad entering a difficult job market, having both practical guidance and emotional support made a huge difference for me. Kenji has been extremely generous with his time and consistently gone above and beyond to guide me in this journey. One moment that really stood out was when I had a whiteboard challenge interview coming up the following week and realized I hadn’t practiced enough. Kenji kindly offered to spend part of his Saturday morning doing a practice session with me, and gave me an incredible amount of useful and concrete advice. Kenji has also been very fast to respond to my messages, whether that's with scheduling our next session or providing feedback in the chat. During the time when I was editing my case study and portfolio website, it wasn't feasible to go over everything during a 45min call, so Kendji wrote very detailed and lengthy (in a good way) feedback to my case study directly in the chat. His feedback is very sharp, detail-oriented, and genuinely insightful; it helped me rethink how I'd presented both my work and my storytelling. When I was deciding between a startup and a big tech company, Kenji was able to help me clarify my thoughts by brushing through all the important things I value and comparing the tradeoffs of each. Given that Kenji also had experience in both startups and big tech companies, I found his feedback to be very insightful. All this is to say: Kenji is an outstanding mentor, and I’d highly recommend him to any early-career designer navigating recruiting or career decisions!
