About

I am an engineer at heart and love to build things. I started building software over 20 years ago, and went on to build teams and eventually whole engineering departments. Working with American firms in finance, HR, and education, I've helped distributed, remote, and hybrid teams achieve success through effective strategies and good execution.

My favorite part of my role were 1:1s with my team members. Whether it was a senior engineer curious about how the next 30 years of her career will look like, or a young engineering manager looking to understand their new role, my focus is creating those "aha" moments of insight and understanding. I like working with people who are curious and open minded, think analytically, and want to understand things that puzzle them the most.

At 15Five I started as employee #1 and set the technical foundation for the suite of employee engagement products. As the company grew, I continued to scale the product, and grew into a role leading engineering and DevOps.

More recently, at CareerCarma, tripled the size of the engineering team, built out an organizational structure for scale, implemented hiring, onboarding, and competency review processes, developed a systems metrics framework and the process of using them for driving improvement and spotting issues. Along the way, we continued to deliver a product while growing and maturing the whole engineering organization.

Building great products requires a harmony of art, science, and intuition. You need to execute now, and get a good product out the door. You also need to consider the future, and see how you will nurture and care for the things that you've build. Finally, you need to be able to react to new realities and the unexpected. I can help you by drawing on my experience—I’ve done this before.
