I have worked at Amazon and AWS for a combined 9 years as a front end engineer and have a lot of experience listening to backend design reviews and thought that I would be able to build out my own application, front end and backend, without any problem, but as I got into it I realized there were a lot of things that I was completely unsure about. Shikha initially met with me a did a full review of my architecture and pointed out some pretty severe security issues around permissions and isolating them so that bad actors couldn't access restricted lambdas and hidden files directly/ moderation items directly. She explained how to set up proper ACLS and the importance of audit logging/monitoring. Her expertise has made me feel safe about my application. I am using AWS services and she pointed out a number of bottlenecks and potential issues with the messaging service that I had designed. Sure it would work, but would it scale? Not really. With her guidance my application will be infinitely more resilient as we are now queuing messages and have the ability to run retries on our dead letter queue as well as comprehensive error logging to help diagnose issues that re-occur with repeat failures triggering alarms that will text me. To make this even more comprehensive she provided guidance on a creating a error moderation data type that gives a significant run down and uses ai to track down the most likely causes which plugged directly into our content moderation dashboard. Shikha is clearly in another league and am extremely grateful to have worked with her. Her style of working with me was very educational which I found refreshing. She took the time to explain concepts and provided links to further reading so I was able to do my own research and not just take her word for it.
