I earned my PhD at UC Irvine, where I worked on machine learning and AI applied to biology, especially problems involving structural biology, proteins, and small molecules. My research has been published at conferences including NeurIPS, ICML, and UAI. I’m now a startup founder and still spend a lot of my time thinking about ML, scientific computing, statistics, and how to apply AI to real problems.
I’m happy to work with both students and working professionals. That can mean learning Python or ML from the ground up, getting unstuck on a project, understanding the math behind a model, reading and implementing papers, or figuring out how to apply ML to scientific or biological data.
I can also help with the parts of research that are harder to learn from a textbook. I’ve been through the process of coming up with research questions, designing experiments, dealing with results that do not work, writing papers, submitting to conferences, responding to rebuttals, starting collaborations, and presenting technical work. If you’re trying to get into research or become more independent as a researcher, I’m happy to help with that side of things too.
I’ve spent a lot of time helping people work through technical material, from teaching calculus, differential equations, and linear algebra at Imperial College London to 300+ hours of one-on-one tutoring across programming, math, statistics, physics, and engineering. Combined with my background in biomedical and electrical engineering, that experience has made me comfortable meeting people wherever they are technically and helping them connect the math, code, and intuition behind a problem rather than treating them as separate pieces.
That’s also how I approach mentoring. I’m especially interested in working with people moving into ML from science or engineering, building serious ML or data projects, or exploring AI in biology, biotech, and drug discovery. The mentoring can be as technical or as high-level as you need, whether you’re stuck on some code, trying to understand a paper, designing a project, or figuring out what direction to take next. My goal is to help you get unstuck while also building the skills and intuition to tackle these problems more independently over time.

What's included in the trial?
Every trial is a little different–here's what Vincent says about their trial:
We'll meet for a quick call (usually under 30 minutes) where we:
- Break the ice and introduce ourselves
- Discuss your goals and how I can support you
- Coordinate logistics like time zones, meeting frequency, and communication methods
