AI governance is a field that is still inventing itself. There is no obvious career ladder, and almost nobody arrives by the direct route — most of us come sideways: from law, data, quality, academia. I came from several of those at once: a PhD, years of university teaching, then 18+ years of data and analytics work in some of the most regulated sectors there are — medical devices, healthcare, education, aviation. Today I run my own AI governance advisory working globally, with a core focus on the EU, UK, and GCC, having delivered 80+ projects across Europe, the UK, the USA, and the GCC. My work is grounded in my own Seven Core Ethical Pillars framework, covering ISO 42001 and 27001, the EU AI Act, and the practical reality of working with clients, boards, and regulators. I am a practitioner first — no courses, no theory, just what actually works.
I mentor three kinds of people:
Career changers who want to move into AI governance or AI ethics from somewhere else entirely — law, data science, compliance, academia — and need help working out whether their background counts (it usually does), which frameworks actually matter, and how to position themselves without sounding like everyone else quoting the EU AI Act from memory.
Accidental owners — managers and professionals who have just been handed AI governance. Perhaps it landed on your desk overnight and nobody explained where to begin. We build your knowledge, your confidence, and a concrete plan, so you settle into the role instead of firefighting it.
Senior leaders and board members who need to understand how to govern AI across an organisation: what good oversight looks like, what questions to ask, where the real risks sit, and how to make governance an enabler rather than a brake.
What I offer is structured, honest 1:1 work — on your positioning, your skills, and your route into real engagements or real decisions. The sideways route into this field can be a strength, but it can also be lonely.
If that sounds like where you are, book a session and let's map out your next move.
