About

I’m a software engineering leader and manager with over 18 years of experience leading development of a variety of software systems. I enjoy delivering impact, growing people around me and bringing out the best in them. I have received mentorship and sponsorship from some amazing leaders throughout my career and I’m always looking for ways to help individuals and teams work more efficiently, grow in their careers, transition teams or just learn how to handle a situation.

I have been in many roles throughout my career (Software Engineer, Tech Lead, Tech Lead Manager, Uber TL) and worked across stack and domains (Embedded Systems, Application, Distributed Systems, APIs, Big Data, Automotive Systems). Common thread connecting all my work has been high quality customer centric data systems. I love leading and collaborating and both these have led me to pursue roles that require thought leadership, bringing people together to execute on critical problems.

Ruchi is a great mentor who is both candid about her experiences and straightforward in her advice. I would often come to her when I needed to understand how to navigate reaching out to external people and handle challenging workplace politics and situations. She helped me navigate a difficult transition period in my career. I am proud to have made it on the other side after accepting an offer at Google!

I sought mentorship after being appointed to a new leadership role, where I faced challenges in mentoring junior team members, managing my tasks, and providing feedback to stakeholders. I struggled with empowering juniors without hand holding, addressing their shortcomings, and maintaining a healthy work-life balance. My mentor provided invaluable guidance on these issues. She taught me to empower team members by having them create their own task lists and reviewing them after completing projects. This approach allowed them to learn through self-directed problem-solving while maintaining accountability. She also emphasised showing the right direction rather than giving direct answers, which helped juniors explore solutions independently. Additionally, she helped me use transparency strategically with stakeholders—sharing high-level progress and critical issues while shielding them from minor team challenges. This built trust without overwhelming them. We worked on prioritising my responsibilities, keeping organised notes, and setting boundaries to prevent burnout. The mentorship had a profound impact on my leadership skills. I now confidently mentor juniors, communicate effectively with stakeholders, and manage my tasks more efficiently. This experience equipped me with lifelong skills to lead with clarity and empathy, and I'm grateful for the guidance and support I received.
