About

I enjoy helping people think through their careers, figure out what they really want, and turn those ambitions into a concrete plan. Whether you're aiming for your next promotion, looking for more interesting and challenging work, considering a move into management or thinking about changing teams or companies, I'm happy to help.

I've been a professional software engineer since 2017, when I left a PhD in AI (focused on unsupervised learning) to join Google.

I was fortunate enough to join the team that would eventually become Google Lens right from the beginning, when it was essentially a startup within Google. Over the years, I've had the opportunity to contribute to and lead several projects that helped shape the product into what it is today. I've also grown considerably along the way, learning from some incredibly talented people.

The work itself has been varied and technically challenging, from developing novel algorithms for multimodal retrieval and ranking to building evaluation infrastructure and working on cutting-edge AI. I've experienced both being an individual contributor and managing people, giving me a broader perspective on the different paths an engineering career can take.

Looking back, it's been a great journey, but there are certainly decisions I would make differently if I were starting again. I've learned a lot about career progression, navigating large organisations, finding fulfilling work, and figuring out what actually matters to me.

Along the way, I've had some fantastic mentors who helped me find clarity at important points in my career. I've also had the opportunity to mentor others, which I've found particularly rewarding. Helping someone recognise their potential, work through difficult decisions, and make progress towards something they care about is something I genuinely enjoy.
