I started looking for a mentor because my new role is much more technical than my previous experience, especially when it comes to APIs, technical terminology, architecture, and understanding how everything connects. I had been using AI, reading blogs, and doing a lot of self-study, but I really needed a person I could actually talk things through with. What I love about working with her is that she takes the time to understand what I’m actually working on and where my gaps are. She doesn’t just give me generic material, she’ll prepare examples or resources based on what I’m struggling with and make sure I actually understand it. One of the biggest things that has helped me is being able to reach out to her on WhatsApp. Sometimes I’ll hear something at work that I don’t fully understand, and by the time I have our next session, I’ve forgotten the details. Being able to send her a quick text or voice note while it’s fresh in my mind has been incredibly helpful. She usually responds within 24-48 hours, and that ongoing support makes a huge difference. She’s also incredibly patient and generous with her time. I never feel rushed, and I feel completely comfortable asking questions, even when I feel like I should already know the answer. I don’t feel intimidated talking to her at all, which has made the learning process so much easier. We’re still working together, but even after just a month, I already feel much more confident with the technical side of my role.
