I lead a data organization at Amazon as Head of Data Engineering and Science, and I've spent 12+ years here building and leading data engineering, analytics, and data science teams across Amazon Retail and Amazon Ads — including shipping production agentic AI like an LLM-powered Analytics Agent used by hundreds of users daily. I've sat on both sides of the hiring table. As a hiring manager and bar raiser, I've conducted hundreds of interviews for data roles from senior ICs to senior managers. And in the past year, I've coached candidates for senior leadership loops at Netflix, Apple, and OpenAI — so I know exactly what these processes test today, including the rounds that trip up experienced leaders: data modeling deep-dives, system design at leadership altitude, and the "tell me about a time" rounds where strong candidates get vague feedback like "too broad."
Beyond interviews, I've mentored data professionals for years through career panels and as a core organizer of Amazon's internal data conference, and several people I've developed now lead their own teams.
