Why did you decide to become a mentor?

Mentoring was a natural extension of how I already operate. Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of working across diverse industries and geographies, and I've seen firsthand how the right guidance at the right moment can dramatically accelerate someone's trajectory. I decided to formalize that through MentorCruise because it gives me a structured window into the real challenges professionals face today: whether breaking into data and AI, navigating career transitions, or building technical credibility. Beyond sharing knowledge, mentoring keeps me sharp and grounded. There's a genuine sense of fulfilment in seeing someone overcome an obstacle you once struggled with yourself.

How did you get your career start?

My career started at Engineering School, where I got involved in the Microsoft Student Partner program. This was a turning point that connected me with Microsoft employees and opened doors I wouldn't have found otherwise. That network led to my first internship and set the direction for everything that followed. Looking back, those early connections were an informal but powerful form of mentorship: experienced professionals taking time to engage with a student, sharing perspective and opportunity. That experience shaped my belief that careers are rarely built alone. It's a big part of why I now want to be that same catalyst for others.

What do mentees usually come to you for?

Mentees come to me for a range of needs, but a few themes consistently emerge. Many want honest, candid feedback on their resume or LinkedIn profile (not reassurance, but a real assessment). Others are looking to break into Data Analytics, Data Engineering, or AI, and need a structured roadmap from someone actively working in the field. Career progression is another frequent topic: How to move from individual contributor to senior roles, or how to position for international opportunities. And sometimes, it's less tactical: people are searching for direction and want a thought partner to help them find clarity and meaning in where they're heading.

What's been your favourite mentorship success story so far?

There are many, and each one of those success stories feels a personal success to me! When a mentee succeeds, there's a genuine shared ownership in that achievement. But a few moments stand out such as watching someone walk into an intimidating interview process and come out the other side with the job they'd been working toward. Or mentees who started completely overwhelmed by Data Engineering or AI concepts, followed a structured roadmap we built together, and months later are confidently deploying solutions they once thought were out of reach. Those journeys remind me why consistency and the right guidance matter more than raw talent alone.

What are you getting out of being a mentor?

Mentoring gives me something that's hard to find elsewhere: a genuine human connection with people at different stages of their journey. Every mentee brings a unique background, a different set of challenges, and a fresh perspective that keeps me intellectually engaged. Guiding someone through a problem often forces me to articulate things I know intuitively but rarely have to explain, and that process sharpens my own thinking. It also keeps me honest about what's happening on the ground in the industry, beyond my immediate role. In short, I grow as much through mentoring as I hope my mentees do.
