Why did you decide to become a mentor?
I experienced first-hand how demoralising it feels to stay stuck in an unfulfilling job or with our limiting beliefs. It jeopardises your career, chips away at your confidence, and seeps into your personal life, too. But I’ve also learnt that we don’t have to settle: with the right strategy, that new chapter is possible. So now I blend coaching with mentoring, to help internationals grow in their career with a true partnership. I love how a genuine connection and the accountability that a mentoring path can offer, can shift one's perspective and simplify complex challenges. I signed up to be part of a community that makes the job search more human, supportive and manageable. An external perspective can really help a mentee overcome limiting self beliefs and focus their energy on a personalised strategy that works for them.
How did you get your career start?
The lack of a mentorship when I started my career was one of the reasons why I wasn't able to achieve the professional fulfillment I was after, thinking that I wasn't good enough. It costed me 7 years of self doubt. Luckily, later in life, I found mentors who vulnerably shared their challenges, made me see my impact in a new light and showed me what can be possible with proven strategies that made them develop their own career. When I say this I have in mind 2 of my managers in Talent Acquisition and my first Career Coach.
What do mentees usually come to you for?
Mentees come to me when they are struggling to see their real potential because they’re too close to their own current and past experience to identify what’s truly possible for their careers abroad. Many clients told me I saw the value they couldn’t see in themselves. I offer 2 different mentorship plans, each based on S.M.A.R.T. goals and accountability to stay motivated during the job search with regular calls, check-in s and when applicable, coaching exercises to go deeper. As a warm and empatic coach, I am genuinely invested in giving people the best support I can and I enjoy the teamwork. Every mentorship is personalised for my mentee's main goals (changing careers or finding a new job abroad, working on their self confidence, interviewing skills, resume, LinkedIn, portfolio or salary negotiation skills, etc.).
What's been your favourite mentorship success story so far?
I loved all of my mentorships! After working together, some clients said that they find the job search and career switch process far clearer, more structured, and much more manageable. Some said that they started to understand how hiring managers actually think and that they were able to reflect deeply on what they truly value in their career, including the cultural aspects and work environments where they thrive. What's more rewarding than this? Seeing people owning their talent and seeing themselves for the brilliant human beings and professionals they are!
What are you getting out of being a mentor?
Being a mentor has increased my confidence, leadership, and allowed me to gain lots of energy and even more motivation in my job as a Career Coach for Expats and Career Mentor. I deeply value the trust and resilience of my clients and I learn from them every single day. I would recommend to anyone looking for real connection and personal growth to join MentorCruise and be part of this fantastic community.
