About

I've been mentoring here since 2019. 120+ mentees, 86 reviews, and a few who've
become close friends I still talk to every week.

**Who I work with**

- Engineers and analysts moving into ML/AI roles
- Consultancies or Businesses who need automation help or coaching.
- MS/PhD applicants who need a real research project, not another tutorial
- People building with LLMs and agents who are stuck past the demo stage
- Career switchers who need a plan, not motivation

**What I actually do**

First month we find the gap between where you are and the thing you want, then
pick one project that proves you can close it. After that it's weekly
unblocking: code reviews, paper reviews, research direction, interview prep,
and the uncomfortable questions you've been avoiding.

I don't run a curriculum. I've trained people in data science, ML, research
methods, and job search, and the thing that works is building something real
and getting torn apart on it every week.

**How I work**

I pick who I work with. 2 mentees at a time, so you're never one of thirty.
I'll tell you when your plan is bad. I expect work between calls. If you want
someone to nod along, I'm the wrong mentor.

This goes both ways for me. I learn something from almost every person I take
on, which is the only reason I'm still doing this after seven years.

Founder & CEO of Bibby AI - AI Latex Editor for researchers.
Previously research at Yale at the intersection of neuroscience and AI.
Master's by research in RL and numerical optimisation.
One prior exit with a YC-backed company.

**Scheduling**

I'm based in USA and run calls on my calendar schedule which will be shared once you signup. That works well for Europe, the UK, and US mornings. Book the free intro call and we'll find out
in 15 minutes whether this is a fit.

What mentees say

3 out of 5 stars

Nilesh probably knows his stuff, but we spent so much time negotiating our working arrangement that I didn't have time to learn from him. I'm trying to build new AI capabilities in myself and in my team, and I was hoping he'd be a valuable mentor in that pursuit. He offered some helpful early guidance, but most of our time and energy was spent on payment negotiations.

Hi Sarah, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We would like to clarify a few points for context. The engagement lasted approximately three weeks, during which I provided initial guidance on building AI capabilities. The discussions around the working arrangement arose when there was a request to accommodate additional sessions within the existing plan, which required a change to the agreed terms. Unfortunately, we were unable to reach an arrangement that worked for both sides, and the engagement ended earlier than anticipated. While I understand that the time spent discussing the arrangement may have affected your overall experience, it is important to distinguish this from the quality of the mentoring itself. Given the short duration of the engagement, I believe the rating does not fully reflect the guidance provided or what could reasonably have been achieved over a longer period.
