About

As a mentor with a background in both research and industry, I have a wealth of experience of 10+ years to draw upon when guiding individuals through the field of machine learning. My focus is on helping experienced software engineers transition into ML/DS, as well as assisting machine learning engineers in their research endeavors, getting juniors on the right track for their career, and help with the transition from IC to EM.

A typical mentorship session with me will begin with a review of your career, skills, and goals. From there, we will assess the steps and skills needed to achieve those goals and develop a long-term plan and specific projects to support your overall objective.

In addition to my expertise in machine learning, I am also available to discuss topics such as product-market-fit, validation, business models, start-up fundraising, and bootstrapping. I am currently co-founder and principal engineer at an early-stage machine learning start-up, and have a strong understanding of the challenges and considerations involved in this stage of a company's development.

Throughout my career, I have held a number of roles that have allowed me to build a diverse skill set. These include machine learning research scientist in the financial sector and Ph.D. in machine learning algorithms for software engineering and network analysis. I have also completed data science consulting projects on the side, managed teams as well as teams of teams and leads of leads.

I went to Chris to help me land a job as a Machine Learning (Ops) Engineer. I had experience building and validating models as a data scientist but needed help breaking into Machine Learning where I would need knowledge of model deployment, monitoring and the cloud infrastructure that comes with that. My main goal was to formulate a project together with the mentor to get me learning with a real use case, while simultaneously boosting my CV, and then help me formulate the CV and cover letter and prepare for job interviews. Chris really surprised me with his knowledge. He didn't just listen to my challenges, he was also able to identify blind spots, like System Design, where I needed to learn more. He gave me feedback to think more clearly about why I would include a certain MLOps tool in a project plan. He helped me write my CV to be more impactful. Finally, he has a wealth of contacts that he referred me to, e.g. for practicing job interviews. Loved the experience!
