Hi there! I'm Lizzie, a senior software engineer at Microsoft, and I can't wait to start helping you achieve the goals you've set out for yourself. With years of experience in the professional world and the focus I've put on mentoring and developing junior engineers in my career, I will bring empathy, constructive feedback, and a lot of fun and passion to the work we do together.
Throughout my 8+ years at Microsoft, I've worked on multiple teams, dealt with many different technology stacks, and been a tech lead for several high-impact, customer-facing projects. All the interns I have mentored have received enthusiastic return offers from Microsoft, and I continue to mentor multiple junior engineers, meeting with them regularly to help them set and reach their career goals. Before joining Microsoft I completed a dual degree program in math and computer science at Washington University in St. Louis and Kenyon College in Ohio. During college, I had an internship at CDK, a small software company in Portland, and did two REU's; one in the GRASP robotics lab at University of Pennsylvania and one in the Cybersecurity department at University of Maryland. When we work together, I will leverage this diversity of experience and tailor our sessions to specifically help you prepare for the next step you want to take.
In my free time, I love to run, hike in the mountains, and read fantasy novels. I've also loved my time being a volunteer at TEALS and Girls on the Run. I believe the happiness we cultivate outside of work truly helps us find professional fulfillment and although we will focus on technical problems, I hope to get to know you as a whole person during our time together. Please reach out if you think we would be a good fit--I'm already looking forward to working with you!

Mentoring with Lizzie has been the best thing for my career! When we started working together nine months ago, I was exploring a career change into solution architecture. Lizzie reached out to several people at Microsoft to learn what they look for in solution architects and even created a mock interview where she played the CEO and CIO of a Swiss chocolate company! (Be prepared for fun, candy-themed sessions with Lizzie! 🍫) After our Willy Wonka-inspired session, I realized that pre-sales solution architecture might not be right for me. Lizzie then suggested I reconsider transitioning back to general software engineering. Even though I had been a full-stack developer for six years, I don’t have a CS background (I majored in math), and I felt nervous about returning after two years away—especially while also working to improve my "people environment" (an important factor from the book "What Color is Your Parachute?", which Lizzie is familiar with!). One thing you should know about Lizzie is that she embodies the growth mindset to such an extent that you would think she studied directly under Carol Dweck (the originator of the concept). Even though I hadn’t studied data structures and algorithms before, Lizzie was unwavering in her belief in my ability to grow and learn. And it was her belief in me that gave me the confidence to pivot back to software engineering! Since then, we’ve tackled LeetCode (4 months), system design (1 month), and behavioral questions (ongoing). Lizzie always gently guides me forward without overwhelming me, and the process has been challenging but incredibly fulfilling! I’ve even had Amazon (AWS) reach out about potential opportunities. I honestly don’t think I would have made it this far without Lizzie! If you want an empathetic mentor who truly embodies the growth mindset, will champion you on your journey, and will help you get your own form of a golden ticket (did I mention Wonka-themed sessions? 🎩), you want Lizzie as your g
