❇️ "I learned a lot from you and you set up the standard for how to write better code"
❇️ "Yours was one of the few 1:1 syncs where I always found we ran out of time and had more to talk about, outside of just pure engineering. Thanks for your mentorship and leadership"
❇️ "Your mentorship and guidance have been invaluable to me, and I have learned so much from you as a senior engineer and team member."
Over my years at Meta and Plaid, I realised that every time I changed teams, people's goodbye notes would highlight two things:
👥 Mentoring 👥
🌟 Quality 🌟
Quality in terms of code, products, system design and organisational structures. I mentored a wide range of engineers (from new-grad / junior to senior / staff) as well as engineers who recently moved into the management track and need help adjusting.
You can expect, depending on your personal learnings style:
➡️ Advice rooted in experience
➡️ Recommended reading material
➡️ Exercises that I found useful myself.
Most recently I was the Area Tech Lead at Plaid, providing technical leadership to four teams across three locations around Open Banking-based Payments and Data Connectivity.
At Meta, I worked at the HQ in Menlo Park on different teams and tools, ranging from internal code analysers to the Developer Platform, and from the internal knowledge base to advertising-facing software.
My mentoring approach is to have you, the mentee, take charge on the topics that you want to work on. As we start with those, we often naturally move to other areas of growth and topics to explore.
Note: I'm typically based in The Netherlands 🇳🇱 and my timezone 🕐 is GMT+1.
5 out of 5 stars
Roemer was an invaluable mentor to me for more than a year, and his impact on my growth as a staff engineer was substantial. He helped me navigate key career decisions with clarity and confidence, ultimately guiding me toward landing my next role at Stripe. What stood out most was his combination of deep compassion and unmistakable candor. He cared about me as a person, and he consistently delivered direct, specific feedback that pushed my growth in meaningful ways. I’m deeply grateful for his guidance and strongly recommend him to anyone looking for a mentor who elevates both capability and character.

Had a system design walkthrough with Roemer to prepare for interviews. He’s very knowledgeable and provided valuable feedback. He also checks in on my progress and goes out of his way to help even outside of our sessions. Would definitely work with him again!
