Human-ing is hard, and I'm here to help you with: leading a team, building your social capital, improving presence, thriving in ambiguity, functioning outside of role boundaries, navigating difficult teams, getting unstuck, setting / maintaining priorities and boundaries, balancing work and family, and other factors preventing you from being content and impactful.
About you:
You might be one or more of the following:
1) New to a role (congrats!). I will help create a plan to keep you on track with quick wins while focusing on long-term success.
2) New manager / director / VP: What got you to this point will likely not help you get to your next goal; it might be holding you back. We can work through a plan for you to be successful in your new role.
3) UX researcher: Many researchers are great at their craft - it's working with teams, socializing data, maintaining trust - that make a good researcher indispensable.
4) Working on leadership or collaboration skills.
5) Pivoting from tech to new career paths.
For all mentees, we will work together to fully understand your current situation. We then talk about goals, and create a plan to get there. Along the way, I will support your progress with actionable steps and follow through, and shift gears where necessary.
About me:
After 10+ years in big tech (Google, Microsoft), I left to focus on helping people. I do this via career and executive coaching, and community organizing. My PhD work at Stanford focused on learning in online communities; my undergrad work at UCLA was in cognitive science.
At Google, I was Head of Research for hardware and platform teams; I built UXR teams from scratch, inherited teams, led leaders, and hired a ton. I've managed designers, researchers, UX engineers, and UX writers / strategists. We worked on risky v1 spaces; I was a member of the leadership team with VPs launching products. After I gave notice, the GM kept me on to consult the leadership team on functioning more effectively.
I've worked in video games, hardware, software, and independent consulting. I loved mentoring and coaching folks at Google. I'm here to help you now. :)
I've completed 60 hours of training through the Center for Executive Coaching, and have a certificate in career coaching.
