For over 20 years, I have been in the arena myself. I co-founded a Y Combinator-backed startup that grew from 3 founders to over 400 employees, reached tens of millions in revenue, and was backed by investors including the founder of Reddit, the creator of Gmail, Paul Graham, and Gary Tan.

I have lived the full founder cycle: bootstrapping, hiring the first team, finding product-market fit, scaling quickly, raising capital, managing a large organization, going through a merger, and sitting on the board afterward.

The tactics matter. But in my experience, the harder part is usually carrying the responsibility, making decisions under pressure, managing doubt, staying clear when things move fast, and not letting the company become your entire identity.
