About this Session

An introductory call is a simple way to get to know a mentor before committing to ongoing mentorship. This session gives you the chance to ask questions, talk through your goals, and see whether the mentor’s background, communication style, and approach feel like the right fit for you. It is a low-pressure starting point designed to help you make a more confident decision.

You can use the call to share what you are working on, what kind of support you are looking for, and where you feel stuck right now. It is also a chance to understand how the mentor typically works with mentees, what kind of guidance they can offer, and whether there is a strong mutual fit. The goal is to leave the conversation with more clarity on your next step and whether you want to continue working together.

Your mentor

What’s my experience with this?
I’ve spent 13 years in tech—10 of those at GitHub—and I’ve seen the industry shift through multiple eras, including the current AI wave. My own path was anything but a straight line. I started in Support, moved into Sales Engineering leadership, and eventually transitioned into Software Engineering. I’ve lived the "non-traditional path" and know exactly how to make it a competitive advantage.

Why am I qualified to lead this?
Because I understand the "hidden" side of tech companies. My time in Sales taught me company politics and how to "sell" yourself for a promotion. My time in Support taught me deep user empathy.

On top of that, I was a teacher for 7 years before tech. I’m not just someone who did the work; I’m someone who knows how to teach you to do it. I also finished a CS Master’s and a bootcamp while working full-time, so I understand the grind of leveling up while balancing a career.
