As I am entering my fifth-decade, I chose to realign my work and my life on my own terms. I wanted to combine my passion for technology, leadership and wellness and build a career that supports true living. Mindfulness is not a buzzword to me; it’s a practice that takes discipline and intention. It means being fully present with my children and loved ones, consuming digital content with purpose and limiting the distractions of social media.

Over the past year I have taken concrete steps to set healthier boundaries, knowing that constant connectivity was quietly draining both my energy and my attention. I deactivated most personal social media accounts to reduce the noise, turned off notifications so I wouldn’t be interrupted every few minutes, and made a simple but powerful rule: my phone goes on airplane mode at least two to three hours before bedtime. These changes weren’t easy at first, like many leaders, I had trained myself to equate availability with productivity, but I quickly realised that accessibility 24/7 does not equal impact. I also made a commitment to truly disconnect when I am on vacation. When I step away, I allow myself to be fully present with my family and experiences, resisting the pull of work emails and digital distractions. That space is not only restorative for me, it sets an example for my team that downtime is not a weakness but a strength.

These small rituals create space for stillness, deeper sleep and more meaningful connections with the people who matter most. They also serve as a daily reminder that my time is my most valuable asset, one I must protect with intention. In those quiet, uninterrupted hours, or during a family trip where I leave work behind, I’ve found new energy for reflection, creativity and strategic thinking. More importantly, I’ve been able to show up with presence for my children, my family and my team, proof that healthy boundaries are not just about self-care, they are about becoming a more effective and grounded leader.

What this means for leaders and founders

Whether you’re scaling a product team or running a small business, it’s easy to get consumed by constant hustle. My own journey has taught me that:

  • Leading with Intention and creating healthy digital boundaries. When you’re building a company or product, it’s tempting to celebrate nonstop busyness as proof of progress. But the constant hustle wears you down. By intentionally aligning your work with your values, you reclaim the focus and energy needed to drive sustainable growth. This means asking yourself not just “What can we build next?” but “Does this initiative serve our long-term vision and the wellbeing of our people?” Digital boundaries are a leadership tool. Reducing your own screen time, turning off notifications and creating device-free spaces at home or in the office set a powerful example. These habits free up mental bandwidth for strategic thinking and convey to your team that it’s okay to unplug and recharge.
  • Mindful leadership is grounded leadership. Grounded leadership is people-centred. When you prioritise presence with your family and loved ones, you’re reminded that empathy and deep listening are essential to building trust at work. Bring this same mindfulness to your interactions with employees, investors and clients; resist the urge to react instantly and instead respond thoughtfully. Consider how technology fits into this picture. In the AI era, tools can automate repetitive tasks and surface insights so you can focus on high-value human work. But without clear boundaries, technology easily dominates your day. Leaders must be intentional in leveraging AI to enhance productivity while safeguarding their time for strategy, creativity and relationships.
  • Building for Longevity and Legacy. Sustained success is not a sprint, it’s a marathon. Longevity in leadership means creating systems that allow you, your family, and your business to thrive over decades, not just quarters. It starts with personal wellbeing: prioritising quality sleep, mindful nutrition, movement and time outdoors. These practices strengthen resilience so that you can lead with clarity even during high-pressure cycles. For founders and leaders, longevity also means embedding healthy rhythms into your organisations. Encourage breaks, respect downtime and normalise boundaries so your teams don’t burn out. Remember, innovation depends on creativity, and creativity needs rest. In today’s AI-driven world, technology can accelerate growth, but only humans who are healthy and engaged can sustain it. Finally, longevity is about legacy. Ask yourself: What am I building that will last? This includes the culture you model, the values you protect and the people you empower. True leadership goes beyond hitting metrics, it’s about ensuring that the company, the team, and your own life remain whole, vibrant and future-ready.
Aug 2025 - Spending quality time with my family.

As a working mom, entrepreneur, executive and business owner, I fully understand the pressures of balancing ambitious goals with a fulfilling personal life. My reset wasn’t about slowing down; it was about redefining success to include happiness, connection and longevity.

On MentorCruise I help founders, business owners and leaders build scalable businesses, teams and products while staying true to themselves. By sharing my own journey toward mindful, grounded leadership, I hope to inspire you to find your own rhythm and redefine what success looks like for you.

But more importantly, I want this to be a reminder that leadership is deeply human. You don’t have to sacrifice your health, your relationships or your sense of purpose to achieve impact. In fact, protecting those parts of your life gives you the clarity and strength to lead better. Success is not only about building products or scaling revenue, it’s about creating a life and a company that you’re proud of.

So as you reflect on your own journey, ask yourself: What does a sustainable version of success look like for me? If you feel stretched thin, consider what boundaries you can set this week to reclaim your time and energy. If you’re constantly in “hustle mode,” pause and ask whether that pace is truly aligned with your long-term goals. These questions may seem simple, but they can transform how you work and how you live.

And if you’re ready to explore these practices in your own journey, let’s connect, I’d be honoured to help you put mindfulness and longevity at the centre of your leadership, so you can thrive not just for the next quarter, but for decades to come.
