Struggling to break into tech in this tough job market? Feeling stuck in your job search and overwhelmed by imposter syndrome? Or perhaps you're looking for guidance on navigating a toxic workplace?
You've come to the right place.
Hi, my name is Harold, and I’ve been developing websites and web applications professionally for 7+ years across diverse industries (incl. education, fashion, government, manufacturing), focusing on front-end development.
Like many of you, I come from a non-traditional background. I was on the path to pharmacy school, then a teaching credential, before discovering coding. I attended an intensive three-month, in-person JavaScript boot camp. After a tough job search, I finally landed my first opportunity through an internship. Having gone through a similar journey that you are about to embark on, I firmly believe that, with time and dedication, you too can break into tech.
I find deep fulfillment in helping others. I can support you with industry insights, pair programming, code reviews, capstone project planning, and job search strategies. As a former teacher and mental health advocate, my mentoring approach is rooted in empathy, the Socratic method, and constructive feedback. My goal is always to adapt to your unique learning style and the problems you’re facing, bringing an objective lens rather than enforcing my own opinions. After all, coding can be intensely subjective, and the best solutions come from collaboration and knowledge transfer.
I look forward to meeting you and wish you the best on your tech journey 🙂

Harold is organized and well-intentioned, with a strong focus on long-term, project-based growth. However, his mentoring style felt rigid and not very adaptable to my clearly stated short-term goals around job searching, and there was more structure/fluff than actionable mentorship. This may be a good fit for those who want a project-first approach, but less so for mentees seeking flexible, immediate job search support.

During our free initial call, Mary and I aligned on a clear milestone as a part of her job search: gaining project experience to build an impressive portfolio. We worked meticulously to develop a roadmap, and I set up specific tasks to ensure she stayed on track. In our most recent session, Mary shifted her focus toward hard-level LeetCode problems and intensive interview practice. While I always aim to adapt to a mentee’s changing needs, I provided my professional guidance that prioritizing hard-level LeetCode questions over project work and forgoing end-to-end project development before the mock interviews might not be the most effective time investment for her current stage. Despite this departure from our original roadmap, I remained committed to her success and was planning on offering a complimentary session to bridge the gap and recalibrate our strategy. Ultimately, the lack of engagement with our established communication channels (Trello, Discord, and email) made it difficult to adjust the plan in real-time. I center my mentorship entirely around a mentee’s desires, but achieving those goals requires a collaborative environment where we can communicate openly about shifts in priority.

I am really enjoying working with Harold. He is friendly, patient and very knowledgeable. He has taken time to understand where I am currently and where I want to be in the future. I started with very little confidence in my skills and feeling very stuck in my career. I found after a couple of sessions, my confidence started to grow and I have been able to take on challenges in my current role that I would not have attempted to do before. This has been a direct result of his teachings. The future is now looking very bright! Thank you Harold!
