Hi, my name is Mary and I'm looking forward to meeting you. Over the course of my 20+ year journey in software engineering, I evolved my own career from being an individual contributor to running entire departments as Vice President of Engineering. I hit plenty of bumps along the way and experienced first hand how challenging it can be to excel in tech without sacrificing you personal well-being. I pivoted careers from architecture to software engineering and found the culture differences in engineering a good change of pace but foreign in the beginning. I started mentoring with Mary to get help with onboarding into the tech industry. Architecture was a work-harder not smarter profession and I needed guidance from someone experienced for implementing systematic approaches to work. In the last year, Mary and I have worked on a variety of issues from interpersonal to systematic. We worked on giving better feedback, being organized in approaching my 1:1 conversations with managers, and navigating difficulties onboarding new team members. On the systematic side, we talked about various ways to improve engineering pain points at work. Mary is very kind and I really enjoyed getting her insight into navigating my career as a software engineer. She was also helpful in keeping me on target for my goals. Since working with Mary as an engineer, I have since become much more confident as an engineer and I am on track to be promoted this year.
