About

I'm a Senior Software Development Consultant at Unity. I started using Unity in 2008 and have worked in game development companies such as Product Madness. I’ve also taught game development at several universities for more than eight years and reviewed many Unity clients’ projects while teaching them as an award-winning Unity Certified Instructor. Additionally, I’ve published four editions of the Hands-On Unity Game Development book and given talks at Unite 2019, 2021, 2023, 2024, 2025, and GDC 2024.

I’m looking to help either new game developers start their careers in the best possible way, or experienced developers who want to level up their knowledge. As your mentor, I can support you in several ways—by helping you create a career plan to develop your skills, guiding you through technical challenges in your projects, and reviewing your work to ensure it’s on the right track.

If you think I can help you, feel free to reach out so we can start a conversation. Let’s use the 7-day trial to see if we’re a good fit, or simply book an introductory session so I can explain in more detail how I can support your growth.

I'm looking forward to know you and help you reach your greatest potential!

What mentees say

5 out of 5 stars

Nico is an excellent mentor and absolutely worth collaborating with. Although I already had some coding experience, I had very limited knowledge of game development. After about two months of mentoring, I reached a major milestone: completing a full dialogue system, some inventory system scripts, as well as making solid progress on game world design, UI design, and game level design. He mentors in a very efficient, top-down way with starting from my game’s actual needs, then clearly identifying the knowledge and skills I should focus on, along with the materials I needed to study before practicing. This approach saved me a huge amount of time compared to typical problem-based learning. Instead of simply telling me how to write scripts, Nico consistently gave me thoughtful hints that guided me to think about the structure of my code and the overall game architecture. He leaves space for independent thinking rather than giving rigid answers, which I really appreciate. This way of mentoring helped me better understand both coding and game design at a deeper level.
