Fast-Track Your QA Interview Prep

How to prepare for a QA interview, fast!
Ahmed El-Deeb

Quality Assurance Manager, Amazon

I’ve interviewed hundreds of QA engineers—from entry-level testers to seasoned automation professionals—at startups, mid-sized tech companies, and large-scale organizations like Amazon.

I’ve also mentored dozens of QA professionals through platforms like MentorCruise, helping them polish their CVs, navigate interview rounds, and secure roles they once thought were out of reach.

These conversations gave me a rare window into what makes candidates succeed—or fail. I began to notice consistent patterns. And that’s what led me to write this book.

The Patterns I Saw

Here’s what I kept running into:

• Strong candidates getting rejected at the CV stage.

They had real experience but didn’t know how to communicate it.

• Experienced QA engineers struggling in technical interviews.

They did the work but couldn’t break down their thinking or explain it under pressure.

• Entry-level testers feeling completely lost.

They had no roadmap, no structure, and no idea where to begin.

• Well-prepared candidates getting through technicals—only to be rejected anyway.

Despite doing “everything right,” they didn’t stand out where it mattered most.

All of these cases had one thing in common:

It wasn’t a lack of skill—it was a lack of strategy.

A Quick Story

One of my mentees came to me after getting rejected from five interviews in a row. He had 4 years of experience, solid knowledge, but no clear strategy. He wasn’t framing his projects correctly, didn’t know how to answer scenario-based questions, and his CV looked like a list of tasks.
