Hi there! 👋😁 I’m Dylan, a nerd and musician turned machine learning engineer who slowly realized how fun and rewarding leadership can be 🎶
My career has taught me that empathy and humility can be top assets. My personality type lends itself to peacemaking and coalition-building, and I pride myself on using my listening and mediation skills to make my teams stronger and better. I have 15+ years of experience building products in the machine learning and data space with 5+ years of cross-functional management experience. I’ve written or reviewed code for thousands of software features across the tech stack, with particular focus on the math and brains of machine learning powered products. I’ve worked for organizations ranging from tiny startups to public companies. My biggest motivation and reward is witnessing how my work is helpful to those around me.
Areas I can be helpful to you as a mentor include:
- 🤓: I can help you level up your tech skills and to build confidence in machine learning, data science, AI and programming. Time series modeling, pretrained and large language models, feature engineering for supervised ML, benchmarking and quality testing, software architecture, cloud basics, debugging, continuous integration and deployment.
- ❤️: I can also be particularly helpful with some of these overarching topics: impostor syndrome, navigating challenging work environments, planning for promotion, managing upwards, influencing those around you, leveling up your emotional IQ, navigating the ethics of employment, establishing and communicating your work boundaries, technical communication and presentation, job searching and negotiation.
- 🧠: I love systems thinking and problem solving and I’m happy to brainstorm with you on any challenge related to systems whether human, software, organizational or otherwise.
- 📎: I have lots of experience to share on best practices for organizing software and ML teams, planning and managing cross-functional projects, methodologies for front-line and middle management, hiring and recruiting, running inclusive and productive meetings and much more.
