Currently an Uber Tech Lead at FAIR (switched from TLM path to IC), led teams of 15+ people before that working in areas of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning like speech, NLP, computer vision and embodied AI.
My big contributions to the field include the first end to end to model for speech-to-text transcription in English and Mandarin (DeepSpeech2), multimodal embodied assistants that interact with and learn from humans continually (in Minecraft, on a robot and in Habitat) via dialogue, the first multimodal assistant on Meta RayBan glasses.
Ideal mentees would be women in tech, folks looking to grow as senior ICs in big tech like FAANG, folks looking for mentorship on a TLM (Tech Lead Management), TL or org-lead management path. My mentoring style mirrors my management style - leading from behind, coaching and growing folks through specific examples in their or my career rather than generic advice, situational leadership and coaching with empathy.

I had an introductory session with Kavya to learn about how projects are handled in a research team. She provided valuable insights into the differences between research in industry and academia, and shared how various research projects are conducted. Kavya was extremely helpful in explaining the workflow of research projects, answering my questions, and providing a clear understanding of the overall process. Her approach is very organized and her insights have sparked my interest in learning more. Above all, she remained humble despite the prestigious environment and academic background she comes from. She is definitely a great person to interact with !!
