My background is as a software engineer and engineering manager in the games industry at a mix of large companies like EA and Relic (THQ) and smaller studios. I've always had a particular interest in 3D graphics and was an early backer of the Oculus Kickstarter. When I got my hands on the Oculus DK1 I saw the huge potential of VR and decided to leave my job in games to get in at the ground floor of this new technology.
After spending some time getting familiar with VR I decided the best use of my technical skills and games industry experience would be to partner with someone with a real world use case for VR. That's when I met my co-founder, a qualified orthopaedic surgeon with a vision of applying VR to improve the training of surgeons and other medical professionals, and started Osso VR. Since founding the company in 2016 we have grown it to a series C and over 200 fully remote full time employees.
I continue to write code for our product when I can (mostly in Unity / C# for the VR content and C# and F# for supporting tools) while also providing technical leadership for the company as CTO and spending quite a bit of time on recruitment as we continue to grow our team. As a mentor I can offer my experience in both technical subjects relating to programming, VR and game development and also aspects of entrepreneurship, leadership, management and hiring/recruiting as well as insight into the VR industry and particularly "serious"/enterprise applications of VR.
