Hey, I’m Rafit. I’m currently a Senior Member of Technical Staff at OpenAI. During my career I've worked at Google, Meta, Amazon, Salesforce and many successful startups. I've shipped world-scale AI products and distributed systems, and progressed to the Senior level in 2 years.
I specialize in operating with high-autonomy, in high-ambiguity environments and turning complex, open-ended problems into shipped systems at scale. My work has spanned agentic AI systems, machine learning platforms, and foundational infrastructure across both enterprise and customer applications.
I’ve mentored many engineers at different levels, from students and early-career engineers to senior ICs. I work best with people who are ambitious, self-directed, and optimizing for long-term trajectory. Common goals include breaking into top-tier companies, accelerating promotions, transitioning into AI-focused roles, and developing senior-level judgment earlier in their careers.
My mentorship is direct, practical, and outcome-oriented. I focus on how strong engineers actually think, make decisions, and get promoted inside elite organizations.
We are in a rare moment where AI is reshaping engineering careers rapidly. Small decisions compound quickly. If you want candid guidance from someone who has navigated this path deliberately and at speed, I’m happy to work with you.
5 out of 5 stars
Working with this mentor on MentorCruise has been an incredible experience. With his guidance and mentorship throughout the process, I was able to secure an offer from Google, which I’m extremely grateful for. He is extremely knowledgeable and highly technical, but what really sets him apart is how well he translates that knowledge into practical guidance. Whether we were diving into system design, discussing technical concepts, or preparing for interviews, he always explained things clearly and in a way that made them easier to apply in real situations. He is also fantastic when it comes to interview preparation. His advice on strategy, communication, and problem-solving during interviews was incredibly helpful. Beyond just technical preparation, he shared many insights about how to approach interviews confidently and effectively. What impressed me the most is how much he genuinely cares about his mentees. He takes detailed notes and remembers everything we’ve talked about in previous sessions, which makes every meeting feel personalized and focused on my progress. It’s clear that he invests real effort into helping you succeed. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a thoughtful, knowledgeable, and dedicated mentor.

I approached him to get a sense of frontier lab, current trends in interview etc. Rafit was very structured in going through the pointers of resume, current asks, trends and how to bound the preparations. I would talking to him more for prep and mocks.
