About

Hi! I'm Darren, and you're awesome. I'm a strategist, advisor, and executive consultant. I can help you navigate tricky seasons of your career, build systems and operational prowess to avoid burnout, and tell you what actually matters when it comes to understanding and using AI.

Prior to this chapter of my career, I led workplace strategy and operations at GitLab, the world's largest all-remote company to go from startup to IPO. I hold a Guinness World Record in writing and communications.

I'm featured in Forbes' Future of Work 50 and cited as an "oracle of remote work" by CNBC. I'm passionate about connecting with new people and leveling-up their competence and confidence, sharing what I've learned in 19+ years leading global teams across marketing, communication, culture, branding, strategy, and operations.

As an adoptive dad, I advocate for others to be able to work from anywhere and savor moments with family. A portion of all mentor revenue will support adoption.

What mentees say

5 out of 5 stars

There are very few people I've met who share an understanding, experience, and perception of reality similar enough to mine in a way where: when I share how I react to situations in my career, they understand it because they've lived it, but since they're more evolved in their journey, they can tell me how to move through the situation gracefully, quickly, and patiently so I can get to the other side and experience the benefits of the gifts that I have to share with myself and others. Darren is one of those people for me. In every single session, at least two to three times, he will articulate an experience I'm having with such precision that it gives me, for the first time, the vocabulary to understand what I'm going through and why. He can see past what's immediately in front of my face and explain to me the underlying patterns or paths that I am on, what their consequences are, and how to avoid unnecessary suffering (that he had to endure) by taking his advice from his own lessons learned. In five years (heck, even right now 5 months in) I will look back at my decision to sign up for my mentorship with Darren as one of, if not the most, important career decisions I've ever made.

Even before the call started, in the couple of emails that I exchanged with Darren, I got immense value from his questions and his insights. I highly recommend a 60-minute session. I think you will leave with actionable advice for whatever career strategy problem you are looking to solve. I cannot recommend him enough. I went into the call nervous that I hadn't figured out the shape of the solutions to my problems. I shared that with him, and he said this is exactly the type of conversation he wants to have. He wants to have an open-ended, exploratory conversation where he can help me connect the dots. We started right off the bat with that exchange, and it made all of my nervousness go away. I just could focus on giving him the unstructured information he needs to reflect on and give feedback on to help me to start solving problems. Darren is honest about whether or not he can help you on this or that goal/problem, which made it very easy to put what he was saying into the appropriate context.

Darren is very insightful and friendly. I needed help taking my résumé from the bottom of the barrel to the top of the stack. The guidance and support he offered was very helpful and aligned with the goals I had in mind. 10/10 would recommend. Thanks again Darren!
