About

Hi, I'm Miller. I'm current a Director at AMD and spent two decades at Microsoft leading multidisciplinary engineering organizations - from GPU performance and compilers to cloud migrations and hardware design. It was mostly in the gaming space, and helping other engineering customers adopt and migrate to the cloud.

Having interviewed thousands of candidates, hired nearly as many, and awarded even more promotions, I've spent years coaching folks on what it takes to break through the "ceiling" at top-tier tech companies. I've helped individual contributors navigating their first promotions and Manager of Managers dealing with organizational complexity and I'm here to help you scale your impact without burning out.

WHY I'M YOUR MENTOR:
• EXECUTIVE EXPERIENCE: I've served as a technical advisor to CTOs and guided CEOs through high-stakes technical decisions.
• ENGINEERING DEPTH: Deep expertise in the gaming industry, Azure cloud adoption, and high-performance systems.
• LEADERSHIP LIFECYCLE: I specialize in the transition from "doing" to "leading," focusing on organizational health and sustainable execution.

WHAT WE CAN WORK ON TOGETHER:
• THE DIRECTOR TRACK: Navigating the politics and strategy of upper management.
• HIGH-STAKES HIRING: Building a hiring machine and refining your interviewing skills.
• CLARITY & CONFIDENCE Moving from ambiguity to decisive leadership.
• SUSTAINABLE EXECUTION: Building systems that allow your team to perform without you needing to be in every meeting.

A BIT ABOUT ME:
I'm a published author of several game dev books and a few fiction novels. When I'm not coaching, you'll find me running, gaming, or trying to make the most of my pool here in Vegas.

What mentees say

5 out of 5 stars

I'm a senior software engineer who is having trouble getting a job in the market right now. Tom has helped me see the hiring side of the equation: how they think, what signals they are looking for, helping me land interviews with insight I couldn't just get from a blog post. He thinks like a hiring manager, helping you decode your interviews to get feedback they never give you. He's exceptionally responsive, remembers details from session to session, and brings creative, non-obvious approaches to positioning yourself. I highly recommend working with Tom.

I appreciate Tom's help and support with my naive questions. Despite my weak programming skills, he is always very patient in answering my silly questions as thoroughly as he can. He would be great at mentoring a CTO or at least a mid-level software developer. I realize I need to pause the mentorship for a while to gain some necessary basic skills. I've been attending his mentorship for about a month, and now it's time for a pause. Even during this pause, I want to continue learning more about vibe coding, and he gives me very detailed guidance on it. I'll remember what he said about being tenacious. I will work hard so that when I resume the mentorship, I will be better and he will be able to guide me more easily:)

I did an ask me anything session with Tom. I was looking for some general career path advice and Tom gave me some good insights on the Pros and Cons of certain roles in tech. I plan to set up more sessions in the future.
