Ten months in, and I can say with full confidence that working with David was one of the best investments I made in my development as a programmer. When I started, I was someone learning to code independently with no real roadmap. David gave me something that is hard to find: the actual tools and workflows that professionals use, not a watered-down version of them. He never dumbed things down or made me comfortable in a way that kept me small. He consistently pushed me toward the highest leverage work and trusted me to rise to it. What stood out most over the long run was his patience and his humanity. Programming is an emotionally demanding craft, and David understood that. David is simply amazing! He is a kind, supportive, empathetic, technically strong, and laser-focused mentor. I got back to coding after a 1-year sabbatical, and I couldn't have made a better choice than asking David to be my mentor. He is the type of guy who has strong opinions about coding, but won't shove them down your throat, and is always willing to experiment.
