About

I am an AI-fluent principal engineer at HubSpot. I work in the infrastructure space, and apply a rigorous mathematical and engineering background to problems of scale and organization. Recently, I have helped lead HubSpot's adoption of AI and internal strategy, and have been deeply involved in building agentic solutions to incident response.

I designed and built most of HubSpot's observability platform, and have handled realtime (sub-15s latency) streams of millions of datapoints per minute, and terabytes per day. I've improved Amazon's open source balancing algorithm for Kinesis to support downtime-free rebalancing over thousands of concurrent shards. I wrote the first endorsed Java client for Slack (see https://github.com/HubSpot/slack-client) and served on the customer advisory board for SignalFx/Splunk/Cisco's monitoring solution for years.

As a skilled technologist with a decade of experience building high performance software and teams in big tech at a 1B+ unicorn, I can help you break into tech, or take it to the next level. As someone who has been a hiring manager, and conducted countless interviews for roles from entry level to director, I can help you prep for that next try. As someone who has successfully climbed from an entry role to the principal level, I can help coach you on how to get there yourself.

Most of my success has come from a combination of learning from mistakes, and luck. Luck, you can't control. But you CAN control how you respond when you invariably get things wrong, and I believe the difference between those that go far and those that plateau is whether they are willing to embrace the discomfort, and do the hard work of self-improvement.

If you are willing to put yourself out there, listen openly to the feedback you receive, and iterate on yourself as if you were the product, you can go so far. If that's what you'd like to do, I'd love to help you do it more efficiently than I have, and perhaps avoid the specific bumps and hurdles I hit.

What mentees say

5 out of 5 stars

I tried a few mentors on this site before choosing Elias, and the difference was night and day. Where others relied on preconceived steps, Elias brought a rare mix of EQ and IQ. He listened closely to my challenges, met me where I was in my career, and worked alongside me as a collaborative partner. Every piece of advice felt completely tailored to my situation. I highly recommend him as a mentor.

Elias has been an exceptional mentor. He strikes a rare balance between big-picture career guidance and practical, actionable advice. Our conversations have helped me think more clearly about the tradeoffs between IC and management paths, how influence actually works inside organizations, and how to make high-impact decisions with intention. What I value most is how he frames complexity in simple, structured ways from how to deliver effectively, to how to communicate across teams, to how to navigate risk and expectations early in a new role. He also brings honesty about the real tradeoffs in career paths, including motivation, lifestyle, and long-term growth. Every session leaves me more grounded and more confident. I’m grateful for the clarity and perspective he brings.
