About

Over the past few years, I’ve helped 100+ mentees prep for interviews and accelerate their careers in ML engineering, data science, and applied research. My mentoring is high-signal and efficient: relaxed, supportive, but highly structured, so you improve fast without burning out. We align on target roles + timeline, diagnose gaps, then execute a focused plan with mocks, sharp feedback, and reusable frameworks.

If you’re feeling AI-FOMO as the field moves fast, I’ll help you cut through the noise and focus on what actually matters for interviews and real jobs, core ML/LLM fundamentals, system design trade-offs, and the few skills that compound. If Big Tech is your dream, I can help you break in.

Mock formats I offer:

1. ML System Design: (you get free book written by me) I coach you to hit the right signals, clear problem framing, metric choices, latency/cost trade-offs, and crisp end-to-end architecture (data → features → models → serving).

2. Coding Interviews: Pattern-first prep, not random grinding, clean approach, edge cases, complexity, and confident “think-aloud” communication that earns points even when you’re stuck.

3. Behavioral Interviews: We build a story bank, tighten CARL structure, and sharpen your impact narrative so your leadership/judgment comes through clearly.

4. Data Science & A/B Testing: Practical experiment design/analysis, power, bias, logging issues, interpretation traps, and exactly how to avoid the “gotchas” interviewers love.

5. Product Case Studies: Metric trees, hypothesis-driven analysis, and decision-ready recommendations, so you sound like a product-minded ML/DS partner.

6. Statistical Modeling & Theory: Explain concepts simply while signaling rigor (assumptions, identifiability, uncertainty) and knowing when “good enough” beats overfitting.

If you want direct guidance, faster progress, and interview-ready polish, reach out and let’s map your next step.

A bit about myself –

I’m currently a Machine Learning Engineer at Meta, where I build large-scale ML systems powering ads ranking, retrieval, and personalization, including agentic AI workflows that can plan, call tools, and iteratively improve within tight safety and latency guardrails. My work spans end-to-end signal mining (logs → features), feature engineering/feature store pipelines, model development and evaluation (offline metrics + online A/B tests), and productionization at scale (distributed training/inference, low-latency serving, monitoring, and drift/quality dashboards).

Previously, I was a Data Scientist at eBay, where I developed learning-to-rank models for search using behavioral signals and experimentation, connecting millions of users with relevant content by improving candidate generation and ranking quality. With a PhD in Statistics and hands-on industry experience, I build robust, scalable ML systems for high-traffic, real-time products.

I’m happiest when my mentoring helps someone feel more confident and less stuck.

Session: Resume Feedback

5 out of 5 stars

The last two months have helped me immensely in improving my coding interview skills. Amal pointed me to many resources that were personalized to me and were specific to the problem set that I was working on. Amal has been providing many actionable feedback items after each of our sessions. I've been carrying those into my practice sessions, which have improved my confidence a lot!

Amal has exceptional clarity when it comes to gauging one's level and then tailoring an approach that fits their goals and needs. What I found refreshing and helpful is that he is direct when it comes to feedback, which I believe is very important for a good mentor. The sessions are a blast, and I get to learn a lot. I'm confident that I can reach my goals with Amal's support.

Amal is a well-rounded mentor. I’ve worked with him for about 4 months, and he’s been very practical and consistent. He helped me build a simple prep system to stay organized and track progress. He made my ML system design answers clearer with solid modeling choices, tradeoffs, and metrics under time pressure. He also tightened my one-page resume to show senior ownership and improved my behavioral stories to highlight judgment and execution. His guidance made my preparation more structured, focused, and effective.

Amal is a great mentor with deep insights and high agency. He provided a clear, structured framework for preparing for Meta interviews, covering: coding, machine learning system design, and behavioral interviews in a systematic way. He helped me understand what top-tier interview readiness truly means and how to organize my preparation effectively. In just two sessions, I went from about 20% prepared to nearly interview-ready thanks to his frameworks and feedback. Strongly recommend him to anyone looking for quality and structure in their job search. I’ve been in the field for years, and his guidance still made a huge difference.
