About

I’m a CTO, founding engineer and leader with over 25 years of experience developing innovative solutions in both corporate and startup environments. I’ve personally architected, deployed and maintained production services utilizing much of AWS, built out the CI/CD infrastructure and scaled out the team to build on it. I have a thorough understanding of the software development lifecycle, and throughout my career, I’ve been a part of, worked closely with, or managed teams on the front-end, backend, QA, Ops and Security. A believer in a DevOps culture, I’m always looking for ways to help teams work more efficiently.

I can help you achieve your goals by guiding you in many aspects of software engineering including:

- Software Development Life Cycle
- Team Management Advice (local/remote/hybrid)
- Resume Review and Career Advice
- Defining Requirements and Roadmapping
- Software Architecture Design
- Coding Standards and Practices
- System Performance, Scalability, Reliability
- Security and Compliance
- Agile Best Practices

James helped me navigate a complex situation at my current company, from defining what I actually wanted to pursue, to having the confidence to go after it. His structured and direct approach pushed me to have the right conversations and test things in practice, which gave me clarity I wouldn't have reached on my own. What I value most is that James doesn't hand you answers but he helps you think. His questions and way of work helped me cut through the noise and arrive at clear conclusions. In the end, the insights I gained led me to change direction entirely, and I'm confident that's the right call. James is sharp, structured, and won't waste your time with vague advice. Highly recommended!

I was seeking a mentor to help lead the Tech team, since I wasn't experienced in it, and James was very practical in giving actionable recommendations from the beginning. He shared some materials with me when I needed them, was flexible about changing the meeting schedule, and helped me to navigate the leadership for the past 8-9 months. I recommend him if you need a high-level mentor to share your challenges.
